Hi there! Thanks for visiting us online. We hope we'll have the opportunity to meet you in person sometime soon.
Allow us to introduce ourselves. Our name hints at who we are and what matters to us:
The word "Emmanuel" means "God with us". That tells you that we are a group of people who are living in a relationship with God. We are trying to figure out what it means for God to be with us and us to be with Him in life.
The word "Baptist" tells you that we have a particular way of doing things that we share in common with other Baptist churches. For example, we practice believer's baptism by immersion (which means that all of our members have openly identified themselves as followers of Jesus Christ by being immersed in water). This and other uniquely Baptist ways of doing things shape our approach to living in relationship with God.
The word "Church" tells you that we are a collection of people. The building we meet in isn't the church. The church is a group of people who use the building to meet each other so that we can work together for a common goal. It's really all about having relationships that give us mutual help and support to grow closer to God.
When you put it all together, we are a collection of people helping each other figure out how to live in a relationship with God, and pursuing that goal in a way that is typical of Baptists.
We want you to know that we don't have it all figured out yet. We are imperfect people living ordinary lives who know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord. He is the one who makes it possible for imperfect people like us to live in relationship to God. He is the Leader we follow while we figure things out. We are working on applying our trust in Jesus to the ups and downs of our lives.
We invite you to join us. If you're curious about your own relationship with God, Emmanuel Baptist Church is a good place where you will find room to explore and learn. We'd love the chance to encourage you to live with God.
